A new chapter
To hold and strengthen its place in the market, Gorky Metallurgical Plant is improving both its existing range of steel products and its long products in special steels for Russia and for export. Bringing a ladle furnace into the melting route raised sales of high-alloy steels with special properties. The plant now works closely with engineering companies that buy forging ingots for forgings. Those companies need about 10,000 tonnes of GMZ ingots a month. Commissioning a vacuum degassing unit increased sales of steel products by 40%.
More than 10 million euros was invested in section rolling, the shop was restructured, young specialists were hired, and cooperation with German partners began to grow in earnest. And not only that.
This is a case where a Russian company can offer both a product that replaces imports and its own effective developments.
